Community Programs

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue provides classes, education, information and programs to promote safety for all ages. Members of our Prevention & Education Division routinely provide presentations for businesses, service groups and homeowners’ associations.

They also coordinate fire department participation at many community events. Please contact our Prevention & Education Office at (253) 538-6491 for additional information.

SAFE SITTER® - Babysitting Classes
Central Pierce Fire & Rescue offers babysitting classes throughout the year. Classes run from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Please refer to our Events Calendar on this website for dates or call us at 253-538-6491. This one day course, Safe Sitter®, is a medically accurate program that teaches adolescents ages 11 to 13 years how to handle emergencies when caring for a child. CPR & First Aid Classes
CPR classes are held every second Wednesday of the month at our South Hill Fire Station 66, 9813 128th St. E., from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Cost of the course is $40, $20 of which is refunded to citizens of CPF&R upon successful completion of the course. To register, please call (253) 538-6400.

First Aid classes are held every second Saturday of the month at our South Hill Fire Station 66, 9813 128th St. E., from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and every fourth Saturday of the month (excluding holidays) at our Puyallup Station 71, 902 7th St. NW, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost of the course is $40, $20 of which is refunded to citizens of CPF&R upon successful completion of the course. To register, please call (253) 538-6400.

Car Seat Safety Inspections
There are many car seat inspection resources available throughout Pierce County. Car seat inspections are free. Technicians will inspect your car seat for recalls and proper installation. Please bring your children.

Every Tuesday, 9 – 10:30 a.m. (except major holidays)

Helmets
Custom fit bicycle helmets are available for $7 and multi-sport helmets (designed for rollerblading, skateboarding, etc.) are available for $9. Cash only and the person the helmet is for must be present for fitting. Helmets are only available through our Prevention & Education Office. Please call (253) 538-6491 for an appointment.

Fire Extinguisher Classes
Fire extinguisher training can be provided to groups of 5 or more people. A limited number of free classes are available.

Fire Station Tours
If you’d like to bring your group to a fire station for a visit, give us a call. Please provide two weeks advanced notice.

Pre-School/Day Care Visits
If you would like a fire engine or ambulance to visit your pre-school or day care, please give us a call. Firefighters and paramedics can provide tours of their equipment and talk to youngsters about safety.

Free Smoke Alarm Program
We provide free smoke alarms to residents of the fire district. Fire department personnel will provide you with a smoke alarm and install it for you free of charge. Smoke alarms for the deaf and hard of hearing are also available. Learn More

Juvenile Fire Setter Program
An intervention and education program is available for youth who have demonstrated fire setting tendencies. Please call us for more information.
