Fire Benefit Charge
The money raised by the Fire Benefit Charge funds day-to-day operations for the fire department. It isn't used for any specific piece of equipment or a new station. The charge can be found on your property tax statement. Unlike regular property taxes though, the amount is not based on assessed valuation of your property. It is based on the use of your property (residential, mobile home, apartment building, two-story four plexes and commercial), the square footage of all improvements on your property (including outbuildings, decks, etc.) and whether or not you qualify for discounts (senior discounts or discounts for fire sprinklers).
