FREE SMOKE ALARM PROGRAM
It’s the middle of the night. Your family sleeps soundly. A fire starts. A smoke alarm may mean the difference between tragedy and your family getting out in time. Are you prepared?
Working smoke alarms cut your chance of dying in a fire in half. That’s why Central Pierce Fire & Rescue has made it a priority to ensure our citizens are protected. Using money received from a federal grant, we are able to provide free smoke alarms with ten year batteries. Firefighters routinely check alarms and replace them if necessary while on emergency calls. Alarms are also available upon request. Firefighters will come to your home and install alarms at no cost to you.
If you’d like to have your smoke alarms checked, please contact our Prevention & Education Office at (253)538-6491. Smoke alarms for the hearing impaired are also available. These alarms feature a flashing strobe light in addition to an audible alarm.
SMOKE ALARM TIPS
• Test smoke alarms monthly.
• Replace batteries once a year for standard smoke alarms. If you have long life battery operated smoke alarms, batteries do not need to be replaced. The battery and the alarm have the same life expectancy – ten years.
Replace smoke alarms every ten years.
