Smoke Alarms

Smoke Alarms

Nationally, home fires claim seven lives every day. Having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half.

Smoke Alarms are a vital component of a home fire escape plan. They are your first alert and warning sign that deadly, toxic smoke is present and spreading. They should be installed in every sleeping area, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of a home.
Do you have them in your home? Are they all properly installed?

We provide FREE smoke alarms to residents within our fire district. The intent of the program is to provide free life-saving alarms to individuals who may have physical or financial challenges obtaining smoke alarms themselves. We will not provide smoke alarms to businesses or to aid in the purchase or sale of a home.

If you are renting, please contact your property manager for assistance. WA State law requires landlords to provide working smoke alarms in rental properties.

Understand the sounds your smoke alarms make:

  • A continued set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep— means smoke or fire.
  • A single “chirp” every 30 to 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.
  • Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.

Requests are monitored Monday through Friday 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM. We will get back to you between one to three business days. If your alarm is actively chirping and needs to be replaced please call 253-538-6400.
