Strengthening Our Response Through Mass Casualty Incident Training

From July through October, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue crews are participating in Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training designed to prepare our firefighters and paramedics for emergencies involving numerous patients.
While we hope our community never experiences an incident of this scale, preparation is essential. MCI training gives our crews the opportunity to work through realistic scenarios and practice the skills needed to respond effectively when a large number of patients require care at the same time.
During these training scenarios, crews practice rapid patient assessment, triage, communication, and teamwork. These skills help our firefighters and paramedics identify patients who need immediate care, coordinate resources, and work together to provide the best possible response.
MCI incidents can be complex and fast-moving. Having a plan is important, but repeatedly practicing that plan in realistic environments helps crews build confidence and sharpen their decision-making skills. Training alongside one another also strengthens communication and coordination, ensuring everyone understands their role during a large-scale emergency.
By continually sharpening our skills and working together in realistic environments, we’re better prepared to protect our community.
