Impact Teen Drivers
(Grades: 9-12)
Type of Instruction: Class presentation from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue
Topic: Safe Driving and Collision Prevention
Impact Teen Drivers, a national program that “develops, promotes, and facilitates evidence-based education to stop the number one killer of teens, car crashes, particularly those caused by reckless and distracted driving, to change the culture of driving to one that is distraction-free, thereby saving lives not only in this generation, but in all future generations of drivers.” This program will provide important driving safety education in a single 45-minute class period and is being offered to our school by the public educators of Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, all licensed Washington State teachers, who are committed to leading the program with professionalism.
The lesson, titled “What Do You Consider Lethal?”, is an interactive, evidence-based presentation that features a short, true story of a teen involved in a distracted driving incident, along with guided discussion and “Stories Behind the Story.” Students will learn to understand real-world risks, avoid distracted driving, and make safer choices behind the wheel in a supportive environment that does not rely on scare tactics.
How to participate: our educators will reach out directly to high schools, but high school teachers, administrators, and counselors are welcome to email [email protected] to coordinate a visit.
