Pierce County Reduces Burn Restrictions to Stage 1 Effective Immediately

Pierce County Fire Marshal Ken Rice, in coordination with local fire chiefs, has lowered the burn ban in unincorporated Pierce County from Stage 2 to Stage 1, effective immediately.

Under Stage 1, residents may once again enjoy small recreational fires in approved fire pits. Barbecues that use gas, charcoal, or wood remain allowed. Stage 1 still prohibits land‑clearing fires and burning yard debris.

“Cooler and wetter conditions have reduced the wildfire risk that prompted the Stage 2 restrictions,” Fire Marshal Ken Rice said. “We’re grateful to our community for taking the burn ban seriously and doing their part to prevent fires this summer. Moving back to Stage 1 gives residents more options while still limiting wildfire risk. Please continue making safe, responsible choices as we head into fall.”

Pierce County’s Stage 1 restrictions align with the statewide burn ban. The state’s ban is scheduled to remain in place through Sept. 30, though that date could change based on fire conditions. Pierce County uses the state’s timeline as guidance for lifting its burn ban.

Residents in incorporated cities and towns should contact their local jurisdiction for burn requirements.
